NMC finalises terms of healthcare joint venture with Saudi Arabia’s GOSI

NMC Health finalized a joint venture agreement with Saudi Arabia’s General Organization for Social Insurance that includes up to 6 billion riyals of investments in the kingdom over a five-year period.NMC, a London-listed UAE healthcare provider, signed a preliminary agreement in October last year with Hassana Investment Company, the investment arm of GOSI, to set up a joint venture that will acquire and develop facilities with a capacity of up to 3,000 beds and employ up to 10,000 full-time and part-time employees.

Celltex Therapeutics Corporation Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Saudi Arabia

Houston-based biotechnology company Celltex Therapeutics Corporation has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Saudi Arabia’s Research Products Development Company (RPDC) to support the commercialization of Celltex’s proprietary stem cell technology. The MOU signifies a global relationship aimed toward improving the quality of life through the therapeutic application of adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their derivatives. As part of the agreement, Celltex and RPDC will work on the feasibility of opening a Celltex office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia later this year.

Dubai Healthcare City Authority announce revised fees

Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), the governing body of the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), announced revised fees for several of its health care, commercial and research and education offerings on Tuesday with the objective of facilitating ease of doing business.The initiative is in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to reduce the cost of doing business in Dubai, enhancing economic growth in the emirate, and further cementing the emirate’s position as a destination of choice for investment.

UAE-based healthcare group Avivo eyes MENA expansion

UAE-based healthcare group Avivo is planning to expand its presence in the GCC and North Africa, its CEO has said. The group currently operates two hospitals – National Hospital in Abu Dhabi and Conceive in Sharjah as well as 29 clinics including 10 dental centres with labs, six pharmacies and two diagnostic facilities across the UAE.With a presence in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Kuwait, Avivo is now looking to expand in the coming months into countries such as Saudi Arabia, said CEO Dr.Dilshaad Ali.

UAE and US to build major military hospital in Abu Dhabi

A major new military hospital in Abu Dhabi will be built by the UAE and the United States to save the lives of ­Emirati and American troops, a senior US ­officer said.Lt Gen Charles Hooper, the director of America’s Defence Security Co-operation ­Agency, said the new facility would be based on the model of the ­famous Landstuhl military hospital in Germany, which was set up in the 1950s.

U.S. Investing $40 Million to Support Goal of Universal Health Coverage in Ethiopia

The United States launched a new, five-year USD $40 million Health Financing Improvement Program to invest in expanding Ethiopia’s capacity to provide quality affordable healthcare to citizens across the country. Under the new program, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will work with the Ministry of Health to strengthen policy and financing reforms that enable public and private entities to better provide primary health services while reducing out-of-pocket expenses for Ethiopians.
