Hi there,

On behalf of Destination Greater Victoria, the Media Relations team would like to thank you for your support in helping us showcase Greater Victoria this past year. We sincerely appreciate your efforts in telling the stories that define our iconic destination and look forward to working with you in 2019.

Christmastime in Victoria

There is something simply nostalgic about a Christmas stroll along the historic, cobblestone streets of Victoria. Meander along Government Street for some stress-free shopping, being sure to stop at Rogers’ Chocolates for a festive treat. Grab a locally crafted beer and cozy up in one of Victoria’s many cherished pubs, such as the Bard & Banker, Irish Times, or Garrick's Head, all beautifully appointed with festive decorations for the holidays. If guided tours are more your cup of tea, enjoy the heartwarming and humorous tales from Discover the Past’s Christmas in Old Victoria tour. Hear stories about Victorian era Christmas celebrations, Christmas Day brawls at Fort Victoria, a touching Gold Rush tale, and an amusing memory from Emily Carr’s childhood.

The Magic of Christmas
Considered The Butchart Garden's official fifth season, The Magic of Christmas runs from December 1, 2018 to January 6, 2019 and is chock-full of heartwarming activities for the entire family. Lace up your skates for the lighted outdoor rink and finish your evening with a hot chocolate in the poinsettia packed Coffee Shop.  Enjoy live, nightly entertainment in the Piazza with Festive Brass or test your vocal cords with on-site, festive carolers. Afternoon Tea lovers can enjoy a seasonal Christmas service in The Dining Room to round out their truly magical visit.
Santa's Nice List: Travel Options

For a feel-good flight, arrive into Victoria’s iconic Inner Harbour with Harbour Air Seaplanes, North America’s first carbon-neutral airline. Harbour Air’s “Share the Fare” program donates $1 of every Friday fare to three charity partners: BC Cancer Foundation, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC, encouraging donations from passengers as well.

Cement your place on Santa’s Nice List with a stay at The Parkside Hotel & Spa. Awarded a 5-star Green Key rating from the Hotel Association of Canada, Parkside continues to push its sustainability promise with a commitment to waste management, energy conservation and pollutant reduction.  They are also home to Victoria’s annual Gingerbread Showcase, bringing together festive creations from professional and amateur bakers in support of Habitat for Humanity.

Tourism peers and stakeholders will meet in Victoria in January 2019 for the second annual, national discussion on the industry’s impact on Canada’s economic, social, environmental and cultural fabric. IMPACT is driven by a desire to align all segments within the Canadian tourism industry, as well as stakeholders throughout our communities touched by tourism, behind a collaborative vision to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability. IMPACT's focus will be on innovation and defining the legacy we want to create together as leaders within and in support of the tourism and travel industry, aligned with a modern and progressive Canada.

Victoria in January you say? With the warmest climate in Canada, January’s temperature can hover around 10 degrees Celsius, with rain vs snow. We can’t guarantee sunshine, but we can predict no snow!
