From the Desk of Tony Schultz

As the dog days of summer take hold and kids prepare for school, the Zoëcon team is planning for another great PestWorld meeting this fall. Please mark your calendars and plan to spend some time with our team in Orlando for PestWorld 2018 from October 23-26 in booth #2109. At the meeting we will be sharing our latest pest control resources and product additions, including Gentrol® Complete Aerosol, Lava-Lor® Granular Bait, Musca-Cide® Fly Bait Spray and Precor® 2625 Premise Spray. Keep an eye out for our fall edition to learn more about the meeting and our Gentrol Complete cash wind tunnel. You could be a winner!

For this edition, the Zoëcon team wants to share with you some product tips for control of everyday pests and those associated with summer (mosquitos, stink bugs, wasps and hornets, and more).

PROPER PROTOCOL IS KEY TO FLEA CONTROL

The pest season lasts year-round in the southeast which has PMPs working hard for their clients. While flea pressure has not been high lately, it is always a good idea to ensure your team is current on recommended protocols for controlling the pests. Most PMPs prefer a combination of adulticide and IGR for fleas which is why a tank mix of Precor® IGR and Zenprox® EC has been a staple of flea control for years. To reduce the labor and inconvenience of mixing, Precor® 2625 Premise Spray aerosol delivers the same combination and results. With an IGR, three adulticides, a synergist and a broad label, this product is focused on the quick knockdown of fleas, ants, bed bugs, cockroaches and more. As we see fewer carpeted floors in homes, it’s important to remember that Precor® 2625 only requires a fine mist application which dries faster than a heavier application – especially in the Florida humidity.

TAKE ON STINGING INSECTS WITH ESSENTRIA® WASP & HORNET SPRAY

As we enter peak wasp and hornet season in the Midwest, we recommend taking down these stinging insects with Essentria® Wasp & Hornet Spray. This product uses botanically derived active ingredients and foaming action to spray nests up to 20 feet away. I had a chance to use it myself on a nest in my backyard and can personally vouch for this product. The foam covered up the nest and coated the hornets, immediately taking them to the ground. I sprayed this on concrete and sealed wood without any staining. If you want to use a 25b product, Essentria® Wasp & Hornet Spray gives PMPs confidence that the problem is taken care of even in sensitive areas like daycare centers, nursing homes and schools. This works so well on sensitive accounts that I would recommend it in all wasp and hornet applications.

GET CONTROL OF KITCHEN PESTS WITH GENTROL® PRODUCTS

When pests get into the kitchen, customers want the fastest and most effective control possible. The Gentrol® family of products is perfect for the kitchen because of how many hard-to-reach spots need to be addressed. Gentrol® products contain the IGR (S)-hydroprene that translocates to get into the cracks and crevices to prevent insect larvae and nymphs from becoming adults and stop future infestations. For immediate control of adult German cockroaches, listed ants, drain flies, fruit flies, listed spiders and more, Gentrol® Complete Aerosol combines (S)-hydroprene with a proven adulticide for dual-action control approved for kitchens and other sensitive environments. Keep the whole kitchen protected, including appliances, cooler fans and stainless-steel surfaces. For control of cockroaches in hard-to-reach areas, Gentrol Point Source® Roach Control Devices offer discreet, non-spray control behind appliances, under counters and in electrical boxes to help stop future infestations.

CONTROL STINK BUGS INDOORS AND OUT

With fall weather approaching, stink bugs are ready to start finding their way inside as overnight temperatures drop. The best indoor/outdoor combination for control of stink bugs and other occasional invaders - such as cluster flies - is Zenprox® EC and Mavrik® Perimeter. Zenprox® EC is low-risk for mammals and offers quick knockdown of pests indoors. It is also good on bed bugs and fleas, giving 28 days of residual flea control. For outdoor control, Mavrik® Perimeter offers a cost-effective solution. Because very little product is needed for knockdown, the bottle goes a long way. As a safety tip when making outdoor perimeter applications, always check the wind speeds before starting spray applications to prevent drift.

Insects in

Nursing Homes

Nursing homes require sensitive broad-spectrum insecticide options to keep residents safe and comfortable. Zoëcon offers many products approved for use inside nursing homes. Botanical insecticides include EcoPCO® AR-X Multi-Purpose Insecticide, EcoPCO® D-X Dust Insecticide and EcoPCO® WP-X Water Soluble Pouches. To prevent future generations of insects from emerging, use a tank mix of Gentrol® IGR Concentrate and Zenprox® EC throughout general surfaces, spot treatments, cracks and crevices.

ZENPROX® EC AND GENTROL® IGR FORM A DREAM TEAM FOR PEST CONTROL

Occasional invaders are pests that customers want controlled immediately. The combination of Zenprox® EC and Gentrol® IGR Concentrate are what I consider the “dream team” for controlling these pests. For non-food handling areas in sites like apartment buildings, houses, hotels, schools, hospitals, warehouses, office buildings, railcars and commercial vehicles, Zenprox® EC can be used as a spot or crack-and-crevice treatment for quick knockdown. When Gentrol® IGR is added to a tank mix, the combination provides residual control of future pest generations, to help stop the population in its tracks. The active ingredient in Gentrol® IGR, (S)-hydroprene, translocates to get into hidden spaces not receiving direct product application, delivering the IGR to insects without requiring direct contact. This powerful combination also helps control cockroaches, bed bugs and other listed pests.

BUILD YOUR MOSQUITO ARSENAL

With the South-Central region heating up with record temperatures, it has been a hot and dry summer. Mosquitoes are not as overwhelming as in years past which makes now the perfect time to step back and reconsider your mosquito-control program moving forward. When assembling your mosquito-control tool belt, ask yourself what you want to accomplish. For knockdown of adults in areas like backyards, Mavrik® Perimeter controls mosquitoes without harming plants or shrubbery and is non-toxic and non-repellent for honeybees once dried. Altosid® Liquid Larvicide Mosquito Growth Regulator offers extended residual control by preventing larvae from emerging as adults. As a potential add-on to your mosquito treatment, consider offering customers our new 10-oz. sized shaker bottle of Altosid® Pro-G. Customers can apply this granule larvicide to any water holding areas where mosquitoes breed, including ornamental fountains and ponds, water troughs, birdbaths, pool covers, rain barrels, roof gutters and more.
