Testimonials
Nancy Raper and crew
Nancy Raper
Like many newly retired people, Wetzel County, West Virginia, resident Nancy Raper had lots of plans and dreams of how her daily life might be different after retiring. Unfortunately, Nancy did not have much time to dream or plan anything. Because less than two months after her retirement, Nancy suffered a heart attack.
"On a Friday morning, July 29, I just knew there was something wrong," she said. "We went to the local hospital in New Martinsville, and Dr. McArthur there diagnosed me with a heart issue. She arranged for me to see a cardiologist, but the roads were closed."

Oliver Cochran

Oliver Cochran
Marina Cochran-Smith and Chad Swimmer had just had their first child, Oliver, via home birth. Like countless newborns, Oliver developed jaundice. Jaundice occurs so frequently that many doctors consider it a normal part of the first few days of a baby's life. Most cases are short-term and ultimately harmless. But once in a while jaundice escalates and becomes a very dangerous condition that can result in hearing loss, brain injury or worse.
A few days passed and Oliver still had symptoms, so the couple took him to Mendocino Coast District Hospital. When the results came in, even the doctor was surprised.

Marina is very positive about the value of their family's REACH for Life membership. The expense of the REACH medical team and air ambulance flight was covered by their membership, so the couple can now focus on saving for Oliver's future.

Brad Simmons (L) Named
Pilot of the Year

Brad Simmons, Med-Trans Corporation base manager at Erlanger's Health System's Life Force Air Medical in Tennessee, has been named 2017 Pilot of the Year by the National EMS Pilots Association (NEMSPA).

He was recognized for outstanding contributions to Emergency Medical Services defined as leadership, mentoring, technical knowledge and expertise, contributions to aviation or transport safety and/or overall personal professionalism. Selection was made by NEMSPA Board of Directors.

"Brad Simmons exemplifies the type of pilot leader that Med-Trans has throughout our organization," said Med-Trans President Rob Hamilton.
Air Ambulance Service Lands
at French Valley

This new base gives REACH Air Medical Services a foothold in the southwest corner of Riverside County, California. The addition of air ambulance service at French Valley Airport was cheered this week by business leaders and Riverside County Supervisor Chuck Washington, who said it's a key piece of the grand plan for both the airport and health care in the region.

REACH landed at the airport in April of this year but it took a few months for the Santa Rosa-based company to get settled in its new digs. On Monday, Oct. 30, they showed off their Airbus helicopters and new REACH-branded workspace at a ribbon-cutting ceremony inside the airport's Hangar 51.
Med-Trans & Community Open
New SC Base

A community partnership began recently in South Carolina between Med-Trans Corporation and Colleton County Fire Rescue to form the recently launched CARE Flight program. The hybrid partnership is a first in South Carolina, and is different from conventional HEMS programs across the nation. With this partnership, Med-Trans provides the aircraft, pilots, flight nurses, and a mechanic, while Colleton County Fire Rescue provides paramedics.

Due to the distance from many medical and trauma emergencies to the nearest appropriate medical facility, air based transportation had been utilized heavily in Colleton County, and that has been credited with saving many lives.
