Debt, for many, is synonymous with life. By the time an individual turns eighteen, they will have likely been introduced to the world of debt through credit card and personal loan offers in which the lure of ‘access to excess’ overrides personal responsibility.
Merriam-Webster defines debt as “a state of being under obligation to pay or repay someone or something in return for something received.” For many, this means educational debt, automobile debt, or homeowner debt. As younger folks welcome debt into their lives, it is important to recognize and understand good debt vs. bad debt.

The Journal of Accountancy recently published an interesting articleaddressing the issue of 'gray divorce.' Gray divorce refers to couples divorcing later in life. While a 30-something divorcing couple may be squabbling over custody, visitation, and credit card bills, those couples divorcing over age 50 are facing battles over retirement funds, the long-term residence, and a diverse portfolio of assets.

A Time for Thanks and Giving…
Team Zinner recently spent the day in the warehouse of the Cleveland Foodbank volunteering their time to help sort, stack, and stock donated goods in preparation for distribution to those in need. “It’s really eye opening when you volunteer; it is then when you can begin to understand and appreciate the magnitude of the work these tireless folks do each day to help improve the lives of others,” said Robin Baum, CPA, managing partner.

A Cause for Celebration!
The Marriott Downtown at Key Center provided the backdrop for the Epilepsy Association’s 26th annual Gala event and celebration. The firm was a sponsor of the event and partner Sue Krantz (pictured, with husband Jonathan Krantz), longtime supporter and board member of the Cleveland-based not-for-profit, gathered to bid on silent and live auction items, enjoy tasty hors d’oeuvres, feast on a gourmet dinner, and enjoy live music and dancing. Over 250 guests attended the Gala which grossed over $158,000. Proceeds raised from the event directly support programs and services provide to people and their families affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders.
