On Our Minds:

Personalized Learning Summit: Is It Really Over?

It is hard to believe that weeks have passed since we brought together 250 leaders of personalized learning for our Personalized Learning Summit. We could not wait for it to happen and now that it has?  Well, we miss you all and can’t believe that it is over.

This year’s Summit was even better than last year.  But don’t just take our word for it. According to Gee Kin Choi (Former CTO at Oakland Unified School District and Advisor to Academic Merit), "The PL summit last week had great people and great discussions.  I have not attended any other event that provided such a dynamic forum for exploring personalized learning."

We reached out to our workshop presenters and, like us, they like to share.  So if you want to check out the presentations they shared, click here to download them!

Personalized Learning is Happening on the East Coast

Decatur City Schools, a rural district located outside of Huntsville, AL, is comprised of 17 schools and approximately 8,700 students. They have ambitious district-wide technology goals and recognize the importance of prioritizing instruction and learning during device adoption. The district has partnered with Education Elements to assess schools' readiness to determine a plan for their upcoming 2016-17 rollout of personalized learning.

Epiphany Learning

Epiphany LearningEpiphany Learning is a groundbreaking Learning Relationship Management (LRM) System that aims to make personalized learning a reality in K-12 classrooms worldwide. Designed around field research on blended learning environments, Epiphany Learning is the first student-centric personalized learning platform that empowers learners by promoting student agency, supporting growth mindsets and creating authentic relationships. The platform manages and facilitates student-led learning to maximize motivation, engagement, achievement and outcomes - all while providing a scalable solution for schools and districts.

The platform, accessible through Education Elements’ Highlight, is designed with the Learner Profile at the center, and provides a real-time, holistic view of the student. It is an active representation of who the learner is, who they were, and who they might become. The learner creates, owns, and maintains their profile, giving all teachers and guardians visibility of the learner from their own voice and increasing transparency between the student and all stakeholders crucial to their long-term success.  By creating a richer understanding of self, it helps learners evolve from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

Epiphany Learning’s goal-setting feature is a favorite for many schools. The SMART Goal process provides learners with a framework to create and track progress towards personal, academic, behavioral and social goals. The learner can help define and achieve a personal mission or overcome an obstacle, turning purposeful goals into action and evidence of learning. This feature creates a strong connection between competencies or standards and the learner’s own goals.

Recently, Epiphany Learning was awarded the Gold Stevie Award for Best PK-12 Personalized Learning Solution, and was honored as a BESSIE Award winner for Best Learning Relationship Management (LRM) Platform.
