What are the key themes for 2016?
Population growth and decline, ageing, diversity, migration, social cohesion, employment, transport, health, housing, retailing, education, and sport are among the ones that we’re seeing at .id.
The exciting thing for us is that we are learning so much about the key role that ‘place’ plays in all these apparently diverse themes.
Lailani is presenting a paper and a case study at the Chief Strategy Officer Summit in Melbourne on 10 February. The interesting thing that Lailani’s paper highlights is that while big picture themes and trends may help you answer the “who”, “what” and “how” strategic questions, the success of your strategies will often be determined by answering the “where” and “when” questions.
“Where” and “when” are very much determined by place and having access to detailed data helps you to understand the life-cycles, the “story” of individual places, suburbs, towns and regions.
This is the evidence that allows you to make confident decisions about where and when to invest.
2016 is a Census year in Australia. In both Australia and New Zealand, we will focus this year on sourcing the detailed data that augments the Census and forms the basis of so much of our forecasting and locational investment decisions.
In 2016, we are doubling our efforts to improve how we share our knowledge of these important matters with you - through our blogs, ebooks, videos, webinars, face to face training and conference presentations. We have already started by launching our new website, which forms the basis of much of our communication with you.
We will also be visiting, chatting and helping in any way we can – and of course taking every one of these opportunities to collaborate and learn from you.
