Hi Friend,

Thank you for unlocking the Welcome Kit. I hope this information is helpful as you consider attending an online Idealist Fair this fall — feel free to bookmark this email to reference later!

Welcome Kit

*Please note that even though you have accessed this Welcome Kit, you still need to visit the Idealist Fair website to formally sign up for the event.

Need-to-Know Event Details

In an effort to provide attendees with the attention that each deserves, we are hosting three separate online events where prospective students can speak with Cornell representatives regarding admissions requirements, unique program features, and much more — event details below.

Each Idealist Fair will be held from 1PM - 4PM EST.

Must-Ask Questions

Be sure to come equipped with a variety of specific questions to ask. Some of the best questions could include:

  • What's the difference between an MBA and MPA?
  • How is the campus operating during the Pandemic?
  • What's life in Ithaca, New York like?
  • Why is this degree essential during an international crisis (like the pandemic)?
  • How can I be sure that I craft an incredible application?
  • Will the rolling admissions policy affect the application deadline?
  • What kind of career services are available to MPA students?
  • How can I tailor my MPA to my specific interests?
  • What kinds of experiential learning opportunities does your MPA program offer?
  • What is the job placement rate for MPA graduates?
  • Where do your MPA graduates tend to work?
  • Could you tell me more about the interdisciplinary nature of the degree and faculty?

Questions not to Ask

You will have a limited amount of time to speak with Cornell's admissions professionals, so be sure to use your time wisely and avoid asking unnecessary questions, such as:

  • How are you doing? (It is okay to skip the pleasantries since you have limited time.)
  • What degrees do you offer? (Come ready to discuss the MPA program in particular.)
  • What is the application deadline? (Be sure to do your homework and get answers to basic questions via the website.)

Qualify for an Application Fee Waiver

In order to qualify for an application fee waiver ($105 value), you must do the following:

  1. Register for one of the Idealist Fairs (click here to RSVP).
  2. Attend the event you sign up for.
  3. Chat with a Cornell admissions professional.

Your name and email will be added to our list of students approved for the waiver code. We will send it to you before you submit your application.

What Makes Cornell's MPA Unique

Before you attend an Idealist Fair, take some time to discover what makes the Cornell MPA unique. By doing so, you will come equipped to discuss various options for tailoring your MPA to your specific interests.

  • We offer MPA students the ability to customize their coursework with one of eight concentrations.
  • We believe in the science behind learning-by-doing, which informs our diverse internship and externship options.
  • We employ field experts who have on-the-ground experience and who come from departments and colleges across the university.
  • We provide helpful Career Services for MPA students seeking professional development and advancement.
  • We offer an affordable Ivy League education and uphold our commitment as the only land-grant status Ivy League institution.
