PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY

Don't forget, this Friday, September 18th will be a professional development day for Byers staff. There will be no school for students that day. If you have a senior taking a course at another DSST campus, they will still need to attend that class on 9/18

FRL APPLICATION

This is a reminder that families still need to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch application this year, as this will prepare for an eventual return to school, and will also help your student’s school to access the appropriate student funding. Please complete the FRL application by 9/24 HERE. All FRL applications must be completed online. If you need support completing your application, please contact the MariCruz Rincon

NETWORK FAMILY SURVEY

If you haven’t already, please take a few moments to complete this important survey that will play a large part in our return to school decision making process. This survey dives a little deeper into your comfort level around in-person learning, and what a safe return means for you. Please reach out to Andy Mendrop with any questions.

ASSESSMENT

As we named and dove into in our last assessment communication that outlined upcoming assessments in the month of September, we want to strive to ensure that we are using assessment in a way that allows our instructional staff to collect appropriate and usable data to help push students forward in their learning and development. With this in mind, we have decided to cancel this round of MAP testing 6-12, in large part, for the following reasons: 1) iReady assessments have taken longer than expected to administer for all students, and we want to ensure that as students wrap up their testing, that they can maintain a clear focus on one large assessment 2) In order to give our instructional team ample time to dive into data, we have decided to focus our energy on depth over breadth. In other words, we will spend more time diving into the data from iReady, rather than less time spent on two assessments (iReady and MAP), and 3) We know that our students need time with their teachers now more than ever, and eliminating a testing cycle allows for more classroom instruction time. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Steven Menduke.
