Hey there,

Happy Friday 😎

Mobile Signal

Docusign (DOCU) is currently slated to report earnings on 9/3. Daily active users of the Docusign app are up 71% YoY and 49% QoQ. We've found correlation between our estimated DAUs and Docusign's reported web & mobile revenue growth.

App Acquisitions

PicsArt plans to acquire D'efekt, an augmented reality photo/video editing app. D'efekt has been installed 1.1 million times since launch in April 2018.

Music & audio DAUs not super reliant on new users

Reviewing the top 10 music & audio players (Spotify, Gaana Music, YouTube Music, etc.) globally, we see active usage hit a wall as people had more important things to do when the pandemic was setting in, but it quickly recovered. New installs of these apps have not bounced back in the same manner, instead they have found a new, lower baseline. Consumers are still interested in listening to music and podcasts but our ability to pay for it has taken a hit in many cases. To combat this, companies are spending less on user acquisition as IAP revenue has declined (wish I could make a 3-axis chart).

Food delivery is a different story

Here we have a different situation playing out compared to the above. Global downloads and DAUs of the top 50 food delivery apps are falling, in line with each other. Maybe these apps are spending less on UA (definitely not spending less on reengagement judging by my push notifications) but this is connected to a loss of active users as well. It's very possible users download and take advantage of the plentiful new user discounts and then do not order again. It's worth noting that Uber Eats is the only major player bucking the trend. It's actually growing DAUs despite a slowly declining download trend line. iFood Colombia is growing DAUs as well but it looks to be off the back of a big UA push.
