Snapchat (SNAP) looks to be having a good quarter from an engagement perspective. If the quarter ended today, its average quarterly DAU will have grown 9% YoY. New installs are on pace to be down 40% YoY, but if you remember, Q219 was a massive quarter for Snapchat's new user acquisition, having launched gender swapping face filters and games.

App Acquisitions

Zynga acquired the rest of Peak Games after acquiring its card games business in December 2017. Zynga came back for the more lucrative games in Toon Blast and Toy Blast. In the past 365 days, Peak has generated $400M via in-app purchase revenue.

Get paid to read the news

BuzzBreak is a news aggregation app that launched in April 2019 from a couple of ex-employees of Bytedance's TopBuzz. BuzzBreak works with third party ad networks to showcase articles users might like. The app pays users $0.10 for every article they read. Right now the app is only available on Google Play but an iOS version is coming soon. BuzzBreak's top market is Indonesia where it currently ranks #3 in Google Play's News & Magazines category. As I was writing this, news just came in that Bytedance has shut down TopBuzz.

Demand for food stamps rises

The EBT in Fresh EBT stands for electronic benefits transfer. As unemployment rises across the United States due to the pandemic, we're seeing an unfortunate hockey stick-like growth for the Fresh EBT app. The app is used in a variety of ways but is mainly used to check your food stamp balance. Since April 1st, the app has gained more than 825k daily active users.
