Hey there,

Happy Friday 😎

Here's the latest app news delivered to your inbox. If you missed last week's action packed newsletter, you can check that out here.

Mobile Signal

Carvana (CVNA) is expected to report earnings on 5/6. Daily active users of the mobile app have increased 336% YoY and 17.6% QoQ.

App Acquisitions

Scopely has acquired PierPlay. PierPlay co-created newly launched game, Scrabble Go, with Scopely. Since its launch on March 5, the game was downloaded more than 10M times globally and raked in over $1.2M in IAP revenue.

Riot Games has acquired Hypixel Studios. Hypixel does not currently have any mobile games but is in the midst of developing one similar to Roblox and Minecraft.

The Domino's haven't fallen yet

During the pandemic, I wanted to check in on my good friend, pizza and make sure it's okay. The good news is that download levels for these apps remain largely unchanged, even seeing year-over-year increases in some pockets within March and April. Looking at current active user market share, we see Domino's remains on top of the pizza game.

Going by IAP Revenue, this is TurboTax's first tax season year-over-year gain since 2016. Unlike its revenue trend, TurboTax has been adding more new users each year since 2015. 2020 was no exception with 7 million downloads from January through April. With more downloads and less revenue every year, customers may be purchasing the program on other platforms, or key code sharing could be ramping up.
