Tampa Bay – Rich In History Watch a hand-rolled cigar being made! Historic Ybor City was once known as the “Cigar Capital of the World,” producing over 500 million hand-rolled cigars annually at its peak. There are only two cigar factories that are still active in this now thriving entertainment and historic district. Eric Newman, owner and operator of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company factory, a family-owned business founded in 1895, commented “cigars are to Tampa what wine is to Napa and automobiles are to Michigan.” Take a PEEK inside the oldest cigar factory in the United States.
