Hi everyone,

As Flatiron continues to monitor the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19, the health and well-being of your practice, patients and employees remain essential. As your business partner, we are committed to supporting your ability to deliver critical care to your patients during this time of unprecedented uncertainty.

We are taking every precaution to minimize the spread of disease, while also ensuring that your experience with our products and services is not impacted.

We are actively watching the evolving situation and will share updates on our plans for upcoming Flatiron-hosted events as soon as we have them.

We distributed COVID-19 diagnosis information early last week, and I’ve shared it again below because we know it's especially relevant to practice administrators and practice management staff across our network.

Additionally, we’ve recently released guidance in our Help Center for remote visit configuration in OncoEMR, including selecting vendors, documenting consent, telemedicine CPT codes and more.

For the latest COVID-19 updates from Flatiron, please reference our Help Center or contact oesupport@flatiron.com.

COVID-19 diagnoses

The ICD-10 code for COVID-19 has been created by CMS (2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease U07.1) but will not be available until October 1, 2020. As of February 20, 2020, the CDC advises that the following diagnosis codes may be captured when COVID-19 is suspected:

  • Cough (R05)
  • Shortness of breath (R06.02)
  • Fever, unspecified (R50.9)
  • Possible exposure to COVID-19 that is ruled out after evaluation (Z03.818) (Encounter for observation for suspected exposure to other biological agents ruled out)
  • Exposure to confirmed case of COVID-19 (Z20.828) (Contact with and (suspected) exposure to other viral communicable diseases)

Once COVID-19 has been confirmed, the following diagnosis codes may be captured:

  • Other viral pneumonia (J12.89) AND Other coronavirus as the cause of disease classified elsewhere (B97.29)
  • Acute bronchitis due to other specified organism (J20.8) AND Other coronavirus as the cause of disease classified elsewhere (B97.29)
  • Lower respiratory infection, not otherwise specified (J22) AND Other coronavirus as the cause of disease classified elsewhere (B97.29)
  • Respiratory infection, not otherwise specified (J98.8) AND Other coronavirus as the cause of disease classified elsewhere (B97.29)
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome (J80) AND Other coronavirus as the cause of disease classified elsewhere (B97.29)

Please note that the codes listed above are based on guidance provided by the CDC. Neither Flatiron nor any of its employees are coding experts and this information is not considered coding advice.

MIPS exceptions and extensions announced

To enable healthcare providers to focus on responding to COVID-19, CMS has extended the deadline for reporting on the 2019 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance year from March 31, 2020 to April 30, 2020.

CMS has also announced that those that have not submitted MIPS data by April 30, 2020 will qualify for the automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances policy and will receive a neutral payment adjustment for the 2021 MIPS payment year. See this CMS press release for more information on the exceptions and extensions.

Reporting resources can be found on our Help Center.
