Need a pick me UP? Listen to our latest episode of Somewhat Mobile, Binge the trends

Hey there,

Happy Friday 😎

Here's the latest app news delivered to your inbox. If you missed last week's action packed newsletter, you can check that out here.

Mobile Signal

Roku (ROKU) is having another strong quarter. It's mobile app sessions are on pace to grow 64.3% YoY and 18.4% QoQ.

App Acquisitions

Chinese gaming company Beijing Kunlun Tech has agreed to sell gay dating app Grindr for $608M, to San Vicente Acquisition. The U.S. is its largest revenue contributor at 42%. Yet only 22% of its 5.2M MAU's are from the U.S.

It's spreading

TikTok that is. The hottest app wants to be hotter. When people talk growth, they talk about India, Brazil and Southeast Asia. TikTok has seemingly conquered most of this and is now setting its sights on new fertile ground in Africa. In February, TikTok garnered a combined 1.1 million downloads across Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. This is significantly higher than Instagram's 367.4k in the same month. It's a similar number for other popular social apps like Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and Pinterest.

Resso launches, where does that leave us?

Bytedance, creator of TikTok, launched a new music streaming app in India and Indonesia, dubbed Resso. It's growing but has a long way to go. The powerhouses in India music streaming are Gaana Music and JioMusic, although Spotify appears to be eating at JioMusic's market share. Apple, Google and Resso combined make up a very small percentage of the market share. Keep in mind this is users and not revenue. For a better understanding of Resso, give a listen to our latest podcast.
