Note from the Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork Chair…

Greetings to all in the Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease (IDLD) NetWork! These past few months have been preparing for the October annual meeting in Chicago. We are looking forward to some exciting offerings, heavy in interactive format.

The IDLD NetWork Steering Committee would also like to point you toward a CHEST publication that the NetWork put together last year. In Preoperative Evaluation of Patients With Interstitial Lung Disease, you can learn how to best approach commonly asked questions by our colleagues and our patients.

Get to know your leadership!

I am a Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago where I am also the Director of the Advanced Lung Disease Program and Medical Director of the Lung Transplant Program. Our program cares for a large cohort of patients with lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) through a designation as a LAM Clinic by the LAM Foundation of Cincinnati, OH, and participates in a number of clinical trials focused on LAM and various types of fibrotic ILD and IPF. I find a tremendous synergy for patient care and also for my own career in caring for patients along a spectrum of disease from mild ILD up to the need for lung transplantation.

In parallel, my involvement within CHEST has blended content within the topics of ILD and lung transplantation as I have served on both the Transplant NetWork and the Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease NetWork (the latter of which I currently chair). The work cannot be done alone! Only through rich, collaborative relationships with colleagues and with the help of our phenomenal CHEST staff can meaningful work be accomplished! I encourage all of you (from fellows-in-training all the way through to the most seasoned clinician) to be involved in all of the NetWorks pertinent to your interests and to seek a position on a NetWork Steering Committee.
