Toasting Sgt. Russ Marek after METALCON 2009 Ribbon Cutting
A Blast From the Past Claire Kilcoyne, VP of METALCON, has been involved with the show since its inception 25 years ago. We sat down recently with Claire to ask her a few questions. Click HERE to read Claire's favorite memories from the past 25 years, what she considers the "secret ingredient" to the show's success and a "not to miss moment" at this year's show. Not only is Claire Kilcoyne METALCON’s fearless leader, but she walked the talk recently when she decided to replace her asphalt shingles with a metal roof. After she mentioned it in a newsletter to metal roofing manufacturers and suppliers who exhibit, Drexel Metals answered the call. As featured in designbuildwithmetal.com, Claire comments that “it’s the last roof she will ever need and has already seen a difference with home efficiencies.” Especially with this year’s horrendous winter in Massachusetts!
Marriott (Left) - Convention Center (Right)
Why is it important to book within a hotel block? Convention attendees have often looked for the “best deal” when it comes to where they will stay when they attend a convention. In these days of credit card and identity theft, you receive assurances by booking in the hotel block that you will not receive if you book on your own. One industry story illustrates how a convention attendee fell prey to a “fake” housing company, made a reservation, only to find that no reservation existed upon check-in, yet his credit card had been charged. METALCON contracts a variety of hotel rooms with competitive rates located in walkable distance to the Convention Center. In addition to knowing your reservation is secure, by supporting the official meeting hotels, you will also help the show keep overall fees to a minimum. Tampa Bay - A Rich History Tampa Bay is located in Hillsborough County and has some of the oldest recorded history in the United States, dating back more than 450 years. The city is the only one in the United States to be invaded by pirates at the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival. The Festival was established in 1904 and although “Gasparilla season” takes place earlier in the year, there are many ways to explore the “swashbuckler” in you while in Tampa. Take an original pirate cruise with Captain Memo, wave a pirate flag at a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, explore the history at the Tampa Bay History Center or dine at the pirate themed restaurant, Gaspar’s Grotto in Ybor city!
