Dear Students,

UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention has issued a fresh, more stringent set of guidelines towards the care and treatment of suspected COVID-19 coronavirus cases, including the addition of six new countries on a travel watch list.

Now, patients who have returned from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Iran, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Macau and Italy presented with upper or lower respiratory symptoms 'with or without fever' in the last 28 days will need to be placed in isolation. Earlier, only patients with a travel history to China presenting flu symptoms were tested for COVID-19.

A circular issued by the health ministry clearly states all individuals who have come in contact with an individual or animal known or strongly suspected to have COVID-19 within 28 days also need to be placed in isolation.

Upper respiratory symptoms include

  • Fever
  • Coughing
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Body aches
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Runny nose

As per the guidelines, we request you to stay at home for at least 2 weeks and visit a hospital for a checkup if you:

  • Have symptoms of infection and traveled to parts of the world listed above in the last 28 days
  • Have had close contact with someone who has traveled to one of those areas in the last 28 days

We also request you to report to Student Services if you witness any of the symptoms amongst your classmates, staff, faculty, or visitors at the University Campus!

Please note that every report counts and helps the authorities to take preventive measures on time.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
