NetWork News

Note from the Clinical Pulmonary Medicine NetWork Chair…

Thank you for making CHEST 2019 in New Orleans a grand success and for the record number of topic submissions proposed for the upcoming CHEST 2020 in Chicago later this year. The grading for submitted sessions for CHEST 2020 is already underway, and we are looking forward to a successful annual meeting.

If you believe that a certain topic would be of particular interest to the CHEST community, please reach out to your NetWork leadership using the “Contact the Chair” button below. CHEST is responsive to accommodate topics that are relevant and of interest to the pulmonary community.

Our pulmonary community has faced certain new challenges since late 2019 by the outbreak of EVALI (e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury) and the respiratory illness outbreak caused by a novel coronavirus (named “2019-nCoV”) that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, and is subsequently spreading internationally. We are gaining new knowledge on these two illnesses with each passing day and will hopefully find better management strategies for these challenges facing our pulmonary community.

Stay tuned for CHEST to provide updates on these two illnesses as new developments evolve

I am an Associate Professor for the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at UT Health San Antonio, TX. I currently serve as Director of the Pulmonary Faculty Clinic in UT Health and Co-Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic for the University Health System in San Antonio, TX. I completed my fellowship at University of South Florida in Tampa. My areas of interest are pulmonary arterial hypertension and lung cancer.

I have been a CHEST member since fellowship training. As faculty, I discussed with my section chief ways to be more involved with the College. He recommended that I apply to one of the steering committees, and I joined the Clinical Pulmonary Steering Committee based on my broad interests in pulmonary medicine. I have been part of the steering committee for 4 years and it has given me the opportunity to put together sessions, give oral presentations, and help our fellows with their abstracts for CHEST. It has provided me the chance to be a part of evaluating sessions being considered for CHEST and grant award submissions. The Clinical Pulmonary Committee is one of many ways we can be active and contribute to CHEST.
