Mobile Signal

Starbucks (SBUX) is expected to report Q4 earnings on January 28. Sessions of its mobile app portfolio are up 5.7% YoY and 12.2% QoQ.

App Acquisitions

Scopely purchased FoxNext Games and Iron Studios from Disney. FoxNext's highest grossing game is MARVEL Strike Force, which has generated about $150 million since launch in January 2018.

Stillfront has acquired Storm8 for $300M. Storm8 generated $62.4M across its entire portfolio in 2019. Its app Home Design Makeover was responsible for more than 50% of it.

CarGurus acquired its competitor, Autolist. Autolist has been downloaded 10.6M times since launch in late 2014.

If you feed them, they will come

We've seen this before. Food is a powerful motivator. It's how zookeepers are able to train the wildest of animals and, combined with some cooking skills, I'm pretty sure it's how I've maintained my relationship. Here we see Chick-fil-A at it again, offering free chicken nuggets or its new Kale Crunch side (I think we know which one drove the downloads) for anyone downloading the app and creating an account. On Jan. 17th, the app hit an all time best for itself of 250k downloads. This is more than Popeyes or Burger King have ever received on a single day in the United States.

Walmart is beating Amazon in India

This is an insight from our Q4 Shopping report. Walmart's app is not live in India but it owns both Flipkart and Myntra, which are top tier ecommerce players in the country. To fight back, Amazon recently partnered with Future Retail, which operates six retail chains across India.
