Dear  there,

I realize that sending out a SMPTE 2020 “save the date” note in January might seem a bit premature, but we’ve got important news: We are moving the conference from October to November. SMPTE 2020 will run from Monday, November 9, through Thursday, November 12, once again at the sleek and iconic Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles.

We’re already hard at work putting together all the elements of a great show, and things are looking great! You’ll be able to find the latest updates at as the event approaches, and we’ll be sure to notify you when registration opens.

In the meantime, we’ve issued our annual Call for Papers for the conference. If you’re considering submitting a manuscript describing your work, please be aware this year’s submission and review process is a bit different.

SMPTE 2020 abstract submissions are due by March 10, and the SMPTE 2020 program committee will review these submissions and create a shortlist of preliminary acceptances. Authors whose abstracts are shortlisted will be notified by April 20 and then be required to submit a full manuscript by July 10 for committee review. We will notify authors of final committee decisions on or before August 10.

This year all submitted manuscripts will go through peer review for possible publication in the award-winning SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. This is in addition to publication of the conference paper in the SMPTE Digital Library and the video presentation on the SMPTE YouTube channel. Publishing across these platforms is great exposure for your work and places you among the distinguished thought leaders who have presented at the Society’s annual technical conference.

As always, the conference is a great place to meet up with colleagues, fellow experts, and trailblazers across the motion imaging industry. Enter SMPTE 2020 in your calendar now! I hope to see you in LA next November. Join us! Join in!
