Sales at Greene County Businesses Continue to Grow

How do we know? With one last collection left from NYS Sales Tax for 2019, payments to Greene County are at $33,743,316 (up over $2 Million from a year ago). This 6.55% growth is over 3 times the 2.1% rate of inflation. In addition, the sale of Taxable Goods & Services in Greene County grew by over $51 Million in 2019 to a total of over $850 Million.

In a report issued by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, per-capita income in Greene County grew by 47% over the period from 2008 to 2018. Greene County has had the highest percentage growth in the capital region since 2008. The average per-capita income in the Capital Region is now $58,104. Only the NYC Metro region was higher at $76,681.
Ten Projects to Receive Over $7.6 Million in NYS Funding

Greene County projects will receive funding through the Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) awards process of the NYS REDC.

Three projects in the Town of Hunter will receive a total of $1.4 Million, two projects in the Town of Coxsackie will receive a total of $2 Million and five projects in the Town of Catskill will receive a total of $4,205,218.

Veterans Ride Free on Greene County Transit
VetsRideFree

GCT’s Vets Ride for Free initiative began as a one-time service Sawyer Chevrolet sponsored in honor of Veterans’ Day in 2017. Soon after, the company committed to covering the cost of veterans’ fares full-time, and will now continue to do so through the end of 2020.

To have the $3 fare waived on any of GCT’s bus lines, veterans just have to show the driver a photo ID when boarding. In addition to the seven bus lines that service Greene County, veterans also have increased access to Columbia County via GCT’s extended 711 line, which makes stops at Columbia-Greene Community College, Columbia Memorial Health, and the Hudson Amtrak station.

In-county jobs rose year over year by 500 or 3.4% in November 2019, the second-highest percentage in the state! (the NYS average was up 1.2%) …While total employment in NYS was down by 71,000 jobs in November 2019, Greene County unemployment remains unchanged at 800 people (a 3.9% unemployment rate).
