Windows 2003: End of Life

On July 14, 2015, Microsoft, as well as many antivirus products and application vendors, will be ending support for Window’s Server 2003. That’s right…. no more patches, no more security updates. If left outdated, performance, security and server management issues will continue to escalate. You’ll become incompliant, and put your entire IT infrastructure at risk, which will cost you time and a lot of money.

Windows Server 2003

Let’s put things into perspective for a moment. 2003 was the year that camera phones took off, iTunes transformed the music industry, and Xbox Live redefined how people played games. We’ve come a long way since those launches with each offering evolving to provide a better product and service. Can you imagine still using the same camera phone you had 12 years ago?

The last service pack for Windows Server 2003 was 7 years ago, and no more patches are being developed. NOW IS THE TIME TO UPGRADE! Think of this change as an investment in your company’s future. This is an opportunity for transformation! For many, going virtual will provide better performance, enhanced security and compliance features, and be easier to manage.

So what should I do if I have Windows Server 2003?

First thing’s first… you need to assess your current inventory and discover what workloads you’re running on Server 2003. What applications are you using? Do you have file servers, web servers or application servers? Active Directory? Terminal service? These are the questions you need to be asking yourself RIGHT NOW.

I’ve taken an inventory, now what?

Schedule a migration plan consultation with your BlackPoint representative. Our experts will make the best recommendation for your upgrade based on your current inventory and future needs. Keep in mind that once a migration plan has been established, completion can take anywhere from a few days to 6 months, so although July seems far off, now is the time to plan for and enact an effective solution.
