Hello, Pumas friends and family!

As we've spent the last few weeks reflecting on all that we are grateful for, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all who support our school, our staff and -- most importantly -- our students. Nearly 76% of our student population experiences a barrier to education including homelessness, pregnancy and involvement in the criminal justice or foster care system. Thanks to your continued support, we are able to operate a best-fit model that places an emphasis on the student as an individual and works to create a wraparound support plan tailored to each student. Check out this recent feature by RTV6 highlighting our restorative practice approach to behavior management and supports offered to our students.

Each and every day, our team makes great strides to provide our students the tools they need for success both inside and outside of the classroom. We are honored to work with such inspiring individuals and appreciate all who help in making this possible.

After becoming pregnant during her sophomore year, Brigette withdrew from her original high school in need of a mental break and time to figure out how to balance her new role as a young mother. Soon after, she enrolled at an online high school but struggled to maintain her focus and her grades. With two working parents, Brigette lacked child care options for her son, Cruz, while she attended school. Indianapolis Met’s free, on-site child care made it possible to transition back into the classroom setting.

“I’d never left him in a child care setting before, and I was really nervous,” Brigette said. “I love that the child care is inside my school so that I can check in on him whenever I need to.”

Recently, Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana partnered with Eli Lilly and Company to celebrate Lilly Global Day of Service — a day centered around local community impact. As part of this partnership, nearly 100 Eli Lilly employees volunteered their time and expertise at Indianapolis Met to share advice and lead mock interviews with each of our students! This opportunity helped expose our students to new career paths and allowed them to practice valuable career readiness skills such as creating resumes, developing soft skills and experiencing both sides of the interview process as they prepare for college and future careers.
