A Message from the CEO

As 2014 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to touch on the past year, as well as announce some exciting new developments for 2015.

Our acquisition of Nextpoint IS has kept our entire team very busy the past few months. The deal, which was finalized in October, not only helps to solidify our footprint in the Seattle market, but has enhanced our consulting offerings with a wider variety of engineering specialties. In 2015, we look forward to better serving your business needs while working together to establish a proactive, long-term and customized solution for success.

We have also appointed Russell Moore as our new Practice Manager of our Consulting Teams. With Russell's leadership, we will be able to strategically focus on new technologies while increasing our understanding and depth of current ones.

Throughout 2014 we have been surveying you, our clients, and as a result we decided to split our Helpdesk into multiple groups. By separating the intricate needs of the different verticals, we’re able to serve you faster and more efficiently. Looking ahead, BlackPoint will incorporate a Technical Engineer responsible for increasing the customer service and solutions training for our growing Helpdesk team.

On a personal, note, I want to thank you for choosing BlackPoint. I realize you have many choices of where to conduct your business, and we don’t take for granted the opportunity to serve you. We’re in a fast evolving industry. We may not ways have the answers right away, but your trust and partnership will always keep us striving for a better solution. Black Duck Awards

As we continue to improve our BlackPoint customer experience, we also want to take time to recognize those behind the scenes that make that effort possible. That being said, we're pleased to announce the launch of our Black Duck Employee Recognition Awards!

Why a duck you ask? We want to recognize those team members who are calm on the surface, but always paddling away like crazy underneath. If you’ve worked directly with someone at BlackPoint whom you feel has displayed exemplary customer service, let us know!

Windows 2003: End of Life

Similar to the termination of Windows XP earlier this year, Microsoft is ending all support for Windows Server 2003 next July.

Businesses that continue to use unsupported software after Microsoft has ended its support are exposed to an elevated risk of cybersecurity dangers. Negative consequences could include loss of confidentiality, integrity, availability of data, system resources and business assets.

Real Solutions

Watson's Greenhouse 

When Seattle based Watson’s Greenhouse & Nursery reached out to us, they were having significant IT issues. Their POS machines were losing communication on a daily basis, forcing them to reboot every time they tried to process a customer sale. This was negatively impacting their operations and their bottom line. They needed someone to step in quickly and fix the communication breakdown, but also provide a stable, long-term solution for the future.

BlackPoint worked with them to implement new servers using Microsoft Virtualization and HP hardware. We quickly stabalized their network so their day to day transactions didn't suffer, and provided a customized solutions map for their future troubleshooting needs.

Holidays at BlackPoint 

Halloween at BlackPoint is always a BIG event. This year was no exception! Our staff pulled out all the stops with their costumes and creativity. We had Mary Poppins and Bert, a yeti, Sonny and Cher and even Dexter! See all our pictures here!

Giving back is a priority at BlackPoint, and the holiday season provides us many important opportunites. As a company, it has always been significant for us to give back to those in the community who need a helping hand. As such, our Seattle Office is holding drives for Childhaven, Navos and D.A.W.N. These organizations provide much needed care and support to children and families by way of special programming, supplies and services.

Our Portland Office will be holding their annual in-office food drive for the Oregon Food Bank. Please feel free to stop by either office to donate non-perishable goods to support this worthwhile cause.
