Dear  there,

SMPTE has been expanding the way we share the knowledge and experience of our members. I had the opportunity to speak about some of this work during the SMPTE Membership Meeting at our annual technical conference this past October. The meeting typically covers a year’s worth of work and progress, and it was exciting to be able to highlight new initiatives that demonstrate the meaningful progress the Society is making in pursuing our strategic three-year plan.

The Board approved this business plan just a year ago, and through this process, we took a look at our vision, mission, and guiding principles. One thing that we defined far more clearly than we have in the past is SMPTE’s dedication to being a global and inclusive organization. We focused on the importance of working with partners to drive the quality and evolution of motion pictures, television, and professional media.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve made great strides in doing just that. Working with the IABM, we’re making it easier for our members to access and exchange business knowledge, and to take full advantage of training events and programs. SMPTE will produce and host a program at ConnecTechAsia 2020, taking on a significant role for Asia’s largest media and technology event! And we will be participating in the Media Production and Technology Show, the next generation of the U.K.’s leading media production event.  These events are in addition to our traditional efforts at the annual NAB and IBC shows.

SMPTE is truly a global organization, and we’re working every day to engage meaningfully with members and professional communities around the world.
