A Message From Lucinda Dohanian, Executive Director

LucindaChoosing apartment life over owning a house doesn’t mean that you have to give up spending time in the great outdoors. No matter the season, our community takes full advantage of our variety of beautiful outdoor spaces. During the warmer months, Tuesdays on the Terrace give residents the opportunity to dine “under a blanket of blue” on our spacious Great Room patio. (Sometimes there’s even live music.) Residents and their families can take a dip in our resort-style indoor swimming pool and then sun themselves or read a book on the sunny pool patio. Our walking paths guide you along our tree-lined meadow and lead you along the Seekonk River. And you can still “play in the dirt” while gardening in your own raised garden bed. The only things you’ll never have to do at Laurelmead is shovel snow or mow the lawn. Give us a call at (401) 273-9550 to tour our wonderful community inside and out. We’d love to meet you.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please contact me here.

Let's Talk Turkey!

In June we had an exciting event that you wouldn’t normally expect in a retirement community – a birth! For the second year in a row a wild turkey chose one of our resident’s gardens as the perfect place to hatch her babies. This sweet turkey mama quickly became Laurelmead’s unofficial mascot, and the residents awaited the arrival of her chicks with great anticipation. (We were all very careful to keep a safe distance so she wouldn’t feel threatened.) After 28 days of diligently sitting on her nest, 10 fuzzy babies emerged one warm spring afternoon.
To celebrate, and in the spirit of fun that is such a big part of our community, a “turkey grand-baby shower” was thrown with ice cream and lemonade for all. The hosts were Willard & Roberta, the residents who were delighted share their garden with the expectant mom.
