With the win of a grant from the State of Colorado Walking Mountains has been able to add even more events on the schedule for Zero Waste this summer!

Walking Mountains Science Center has been hard at work zero-wasting many of the events that happen in Eagle County during the summer. Using grant funds Walking Mountains was able to purchase 10 new Zero Hero tents and 30 new bins to expand zero waste into new communities in our Valley.

The Town of Vail won a grant from the State of Colorado to support their "Pay as you Throw" Ordinance. 

Town of Vail "Pay as you Throw" ordinance allows residents to pay less for trash pick up the less trash they generate. With the grant funding won from the state, Vail was able to purchase 32 gallon wildlife proof trash bins to help residents who can't afford the bins a chance to pay less for their trash service.

This year our diversion rate jumped from 22.2% to 26% between 2017 and 2018!

With a state average diversion rate of 12%, that's something to be proud of. Our goal for waste diversion in the Eagle County Climate Action Plan is 30% by 2030, and we are getting close.

With a new compost facility, textile recycling, and a construction & demolition diversion site, we have more opportunities than ever to divert our waste away from the landfill.
