SUMMER 2019

Hi You,

Summer is here! Along with summer comes BBQs, tailgates, concerts in the park, and a LOT of disposable waste. It's important to remember how our waste is handled, where it's ending up and how we can reduce the amount of waste we create while we enjoy the sunshine!

Why Recycle? Did you know that if we were to divert all the recycling that ends up in the landfill each year, we could eliminate over 19,000 tons of CO2 per year?

Check out the articles below that help demystify the world of waste diversion!

plastic ID numbersWhat's the deal with these Plastic ID #'s?

Almost every piece of plastic has a little number with the chasing arrows around it. But what does that symbol actually mean? It's not what you may think!

We are all familiar with the chasing arrows found on most plastic products. But that symbol does not mean the product is able to be recycled. Learn more about what each number means and why we should be paying attention, here.

This year our diversion rate jumped from 22.2% to 26% between 2017 and 2018!

With a state average diversion rate of 12%, that's something to be proud of. Our goal for waste diversion in the Eagle County Climate Action Plan is 30% by 2030, and we are getting close.

With a new compost facility, textile recycling, and a construction & demolition diversion site, we have more opportunities than ever to divert our waste away from the landfill.
